Napa Valley Wine Tour with Sonoma Wine Country

Why We Love This Tour

“Not only does Benziger Family Winery make delicious wine, but they have baby sheep, keep bees, and grow all sorts of cool native plants on the property to maintain a healthy ecosystem for their grape vines. Their tram tour is truly a mini-master-class in biodynamic wine production, and all of their staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Add in a visit to Imagery Winery (producers of my all-time favorite wine), a picnic lunch, and an afternoon exploring Napa County, and this day is just perfect!”

Overview

Taste amazing wine – and learn how it’s made behind the scenes!

You are not the ordinary wine drinker, and this is not an ordinary Napa Valley Wine Tour.

As soon as you step out the front door of your hotel and into our tour experience, you’ll be taken on a whirlwind, wine-tastic adventure that takes you across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, through the Marin Headlands, and right into the rolling hills of California’s breathtaking Wine Country. This tour offers a lively, fully immersive, educational tour of both Napa and Sonoma Valley.

In Sonoma, you’ll explore the sprawling Benziger Family Winery on a 45-minute tour from the comfort of a tram. You’ll follow the winemaking process from the vine to the glass, and while you get the inside scoop on their unique biodynamic farming methods, you’ll also get a chance to taste the fruits of their labor. We’ll explore the Benzinger fermentation facilities and wine caves before heading back to the tasting room to find out how their special farming methods give the wines their unique and robust flavors.

You’ll enjoy tasting at Benziger’s sister winery, Imagery, and we’ll provide a scrumptious picnic lunch.

In the afternoon, we’ll embark on the second half of our tour to a mix and match selection of additional tastings in Sonoma and Napa Valley. After you’ve tasted wines to your heart’s desire, we’ll make one more stop to take some pictures by the Golden Gate bridge before delivering you right back to San Francisco in time to show off your newfound knowledge at dinner– potentially with some expertly selected bottles in tow.

Itinerary

Morning – Sonoma County Wine Tastings

8:15 – 9:30am: Make your way to the pre-arranged pick-up spots. We recommend you arrive at least 10 minutes early.

9:30 – 10:15am:  From the cozy vantage of your mini-coach, you’ll take in panoramic scenes that span from the city skyline, to Alcatraz Island, and across the boat-speckled bay; catching glimpses of scenes that have inspired countless authors, poets, and artists. We’ll take the winding coastal mountain path of the Marin Headlands where you’ll see the base of Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region), leaving the rush of the city behind and setting the pace for a relaxing day out in the country.

You’ll know we’ve entered Sonoma County when the roads open up to vivid sceneries of the patchwork farms, rolling hills, and lush valleys that have produced world-renowned wines for over 60 years. Your expert guide will take you on a journey through the history, unique soil conditions, and microclimates to help you fully appreciate the unparalleled Wine Country experience.

10:15 – 11:00am: You’ll make your way to Imagery Estate, Benziger’s sister winery. Run by a father-daughter duo, Imagery was founded by the brother of the Benziger Winery patriarch as a way to expand the varietals to a series of small artisan wines using lesser-known varietals.

11:30am – 1:30pm: We’ll make our way down the idyllic, tree-lined road leading to the Benziger Family Winery & Biodynamic Vineyard and do a quick group check-in for the tram tour. The tour offers an intimate look at the unique biodynamic cultivation process– from the carefully tended vines, fermentation facility, and crush pad on a comfortable fully-guided tram tour. The tour also includes a fascinating look through the Benziger’s wine caves! From end to end, you’ll explore the vineyard and do a special tasting of Benziger’s biodynamic wines and a few tastings from their partner vineyards.  After savoring your first set of wine tastings, you’ll relax your palate while you enjoy your complimentary picnic lunch, surrounded by the beautiful hills in the countryside.

AFTERNOON – TASTINGS IN NAPA VALLEY WINE COUNTRY

2:30 – 5:00pm: We’ll set our course to the famed Napa County for more wine tasting in Oakville, Yountville, or in the town of Napa. With the gorgeous landscape of rolling hills, lined with neat rows of wine grapes you’ll an idyllic backdrop to capture memories as you taste your way through the Wine Country.

5:00 – 6:00pm: We can’t miss the opportunity to take one more stop to get an iconic panoramic picture from the Marin Headlands, where you’ll have full views of the Golden Gate Bridge and witness awe-inspiring views of San Francisco glittering across the bay.
