Located in Southern California, Los Angeles is not just commonly portrayed in movies – it is where the movies come to do their portraying! Known as the Entertainment Capital of the World, LA is home to Hollywood’s Stars, world-renowned fashion and innovative cuisine. With it’s beautiful weather and beautifully diverse culture, there is much to do and see in the nation’s second most populous city!

Located less than 140 miles from Mexico, it is no surprise the influence that some of the original settlers of the city had during its inception. The City of Angels had humble beginnings with strong farming and oil economies. As Los Angeles began to see big booms of immigrants in the mid- to late-1800s, the city’s economic focuses began to shift towards tourism, movies and technology. As schoolhouses, religious centers, trolley lines and railroad lines were built, LA saw an influx in the population. While the first census in 1841 recorded 141 inhabitants, LA reached 50,000 civilians by 1890. Ten years after that, it doubled as the population reached 102,479, and tripled again in the next decade approaching 319,198.

Today Los Angeles County is by far the nation’s largest.  Famed for its contributions to the film and television industry, tourists love visiting the iconic Hollywood sign, touring studios such as Paramount Pictures, Universal and Warner Brothers and walking on Hollywood Boulevard to see the TCL Chinese Theater and celebrities’ hand- and footprints along the Walk of Fame.
