Because Las Vegas is surrounded by desert, there are many amazing landscapes within easy driving distance, making organized tours from Las Vegas an easy way to enrich your getaway. Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Bryce and Zion Canyons, Red Rocks, and many more are just a short drive away. From the lowest elevation salt-flats of Badwater Basin to the Hualapai Indian Reservations and spectacular Skywalk of the Grand Canyon’s West Rim, you can experience the history, geology, culture, and extreme beauty of this unique landscape.

For some added pizzazz, mix it up and see the views from above! Incredible Adventures offers a variety of Las Vegas helicopter tours over the dazzling Strip, and both airplane and helicopter tours through the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon.

If you are looking for something more active, rent a kayak or hop in a raft and take a guided tour of Lake Mead and the Black Canyon (including amazing up-close views of the astounding Hoover Dam)!

For the most adventure, take some time for a road trip! We offer several overnight hotel and camping tours from 3-7 days in length to give you the full desert experience of the American Southwest!

Located in the Mojave Desert, Las Vegas, Nevada, is one of the top tourist destinations in the world! Most well known for its hotel-casino resorts and its lively nightlife, the infamous Sin City is also in close proximity to some of the country’s most famous National Parks, making it a huge attraction for city slickers and outdoor enthusiasts alike!

A Brief History of Las Vegas

Spanish for “the meadows,” Las Vegas was named by Mexican explorers traveling through the area in 1829, presumably dubbed after the large grassy areas fed by deep groundwater. Approximately 20 years later, Mormon missionaries were sent to the area to convert the Native Americans, but it wasn’t until 1911, after the development of railroads and mines, that Las Vegas was formally established as a city.

Three significant events led to the rapid growth of Las Vegas and turned it into what it is today: the legalization of gambling in 1931 brought about the construction of massive casino hotels, the completion of the Hoover Dam in 1935 brought more tourism into the area from the newly created Lake Mead, and a nuclear atmospheric testing at a nearby test site in the 1950s brought in many government workers, researchers, and scientists to the area. In that same decade, the airport was set up for commercial use, the University of Nevada at Las Vegas was established, and the Las Vegas Convention Center was built.

Today, Las Vegas is the 31st most populous city and one of the top destinations for conventions in the United States! And with distances of approximately 120 to 270 miles to several of the US’s most renowned National Parks, Las Vegas serves as a quite glamorous gateway to some of the country’s most beloved natural spaces.

Best Time to Visit Las Vegas

Summer is a popular time to visit this entertainment mecca, but if you want to avoid the brutal summer heat, avoid the majority of the crowds, and perhaps score some deals on accommodation discounts, you might consider visiting in the shoulder seasons: March-May and September-November. This is the desert after all, and with average summer temperatures climbing above 100 degrees Fahrenheit, you’ll want to make sure you’re keeping cool!

Can’t make it out in the Summer? No problem! Las Vegas never slows down. With the same energy on the Vegas Strip, winter may treat you to cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, and perhaps some snow in the National Parks!

And if you’d like a break from the windowless casinos, get outside with Incredible Adventures on a Black Canyon Kayak tour from Las Vegas. Or perhaps you’d prefer to experience the extremes of Death Valley on a day tour – or a Hoover Dam tour from Las Vegas, there’s no way to do it wrong!
