Alaska — America’s last frontier. Spanning over 660,000 square miles, it’s the USA’s largest state and one of the least inhabited. Much of Alaska consists of fjords, glaciers, mountains, and volcanoes, making it one of the most wild and awe-inspiring destinations on earth. Its relative inaccessibility from the rest of the US has imbued it with a sense of mystery and adventure — it’s a place that’s begging to be explored.
And explore it you must! With opportunities for wildlife watching, seeing the breathtaking northern lights, or even summiting Denali, North America’s highest peak, Alaska is a land for trailblazers. If traveling its vast distances was ever holding you back, then we have the tours for you.

Despite its seemingly inhospitable nature, Alaska has been inhabited for thousands of years. Since 10,000 BCE people have made this region their home after they crossed the Bering land bridge from Siberia. Some of these original groups include the Athabaskans, Unangan, Inuit, and Tlingit.
The first European settlers to arrive were the Russians in the 18th century, who drove the fur trade. Their arrival had devastating effects on the Indigenous population, as they were killed by settlers or disease.
In 1867, the United States bought Alaska from Russia. While there was little development for a number of years, the discovery of gold led to a rush as prospectors arrived in hopes of striking gold. Fairbanks in particular was at the heart of the mining industry, becoming Alaska’s largest gold producer.
During World War II, Alaska was invaded by Japanese forces, leading to the development of the Alaska Highway which today connects it to Canada and has helped contribute to Alaska’s growth.
In more recent history, the discovery of petroleum has further led to Alaska’s development. However, continued exploration and drilling have come under fire due to environmental concerns, with a great deal of changes in policies.
While Alaska is rich in resources, its true value lies in its pristine natural beauty which draws visitors from near and far, and which Incredible Adventures is committed to protecting through our eco-friendly tours!
Alaska is a year-round destination, with each season delivering a smorgasbord of things to see and do. This state experiences both the Midnight Sun and the long dark months that bring the northern lights, making it a place of extreme changes and extreme fun.
In the summer months between May and September, Alaska is absolutely thriving. This is the peak time to go hiking, wildlife watching, and cruising in the fjords. Denali National Park offers plenty of trails to explore and opportunities for spotting bears, caribou, moose, and possibly even wolves. During this period, whales also make their migration, and the waters of Kenai Fjords National Park are practically teeming with them. Join a boat tour or go kayaking in the fjords to spot these majestic creatures and admire the breathtaking glaciers. If you want to experience the Midnight Sun, you can head to Fairbanks which experiences almost 24 hours of sunlight!
Come winter, Alaska couldn’t be more different. The land is coated in crisp, white snow and is shrouded in darkness. Yet the skies turn into an otherworldly spectacle. Between October and April, Alaska turns into a winter wonderland and a hotspot for the northern lights. This is prime time for skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding, and ice skating, all of which you can do under the cover of the aurora borealis!
For the best chances of seeing the northern lights, you can visit between August and April, also known as “aurora season”. Destinations in Arctic Alaska provide some of the best conditions for viewing, but you can always check the aurora forecast to keep track of its development across Alaska.
