Phil’s connection to the outdoors began in his childhood, growing up in the greater Seattle area. He spent his formative years immersed in nature, hiking and camping among the towering evergreens of the Cascade Mountains, cycling the city’s hilly terrain, and strolling along the shores of Puget Sound.
After completing a history and politics degree at the University of Washington, Phil’s desire to explore the world took hold. He embarked on a year-long backpacking adventure, traversing the globe and experiencing diverse cultures and landscapes. From skydiving in New Zealand and rafting in Thailand to hiking the Camino de Santiago in Spain, he embraced every opportunity for adventure.
This transformative journey solidified his passion for travel, leading him to pursue a career in guiding. He has now spent six seasons sharing his love of exploration with others, leading trips across the diverse landscapes of all fifty states and Canada, encompassing deserts, mountains, shores, and cities.
Following each guiding season, Phil continues his own adventures, often seeking out new and warm destinations during the winter months. In his free time, he remains active, cycling, camping, and hiking in his favorite locations. He also enjoys relaxing with a craft beer while cheering on his beloved Seattle Mariners and Seahawks.
