Napa and Sonoma Wine Tour-Visit Napa and Sonoma Wine Country

Why We Love This Tour

“Even if you’re not a wine connnoisseur, this trip has an excellent balance: becoming one with the tallest trees on the planet before visiting a unique mixture of down to earth wineries. I love the flexibility this tour allows as well. We have two massive vine-covered valleys to play around in based on the wines (sparkling or still) you’re interested in tasting. You also have the freedom to eat lunch and dinner around downtown Sonoma Square, the “birthplace of California.”

One day for a Napa and Sonoma Wine Tour just isn’t enough. So why not two? Visit the towering redwoods of Muir Woods National Monument and enjoy tastings in both Napa and Sonoma on our relaxing two-day getaway!

On your first day, visit Muir Woods & several wineries in Sonoma Valley. After touring and tasting at various locations, your guide will deliver you to your night’s accommodations at a hotel right near Sonoma Square. Downtown Sonoma is home to a variety of gourmet restaurants and fine wine tasting rooms as well as the historic Sonoma Mission de Solano. Enjoy your evening as you wish! You’ll have more time to explore downtown Sonoma’s highlights in the morning before you meet your tour group for some more wine tasting. It’s just a quick jump to Glen Ellen, where you’ll enjoy a fun and educational 45 minute tram tour of Benziger Family Winery’s vines, wine caves, and tastings in a beautiful private tasting room. Afterwards, enjoy a delicious organic picnic lunch (included day 2). Your afternoon will be spent tasting your way through Sonoma and into Napa Valley, and finally back across the Golden Gate Bridge and to your hotel in San Francisco. This two day tour is perfect for those who prefer a more relaxed pace and more time to appreciate both the wine and cuisine of the famous Northern California Wine Country.
**Note: Some activities are not accessible in extreme weather or due to road closures. Every attempt will be made to find comparable activities if these options are not available during your trip.**

Day 1 Itinerary

8:15 – 9:00am: Pick up from San Francisco hotels

8:15 – 10:15am: After pickup, head north across the Golden Gate Bridge, which offers sweeping views of San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the city skyline. We wind through the coastal mountains of the Marin Headlands, past Mt. Tamalpais (the highest point in the North Bay region) on our way to Muir Woods National Monument.

10:30 – 11:45am: Arrive at Muir Woods National Monument. The coastal redwood is the tallest tree species in the world. These trees only thrive in Northern California and Oregon, due to the thick fog that blankets the west coast in the summer months. In 1908, Senator William Kent and his wife donated their land to the state, and President Theodore Roosevelt designated it as a federally protected area. Muir Woods National Monument is the only surviving stand of old-growth redwood forest in the Bay Area. You will have 1 – 1 1/2 hours to wander amongst these towering giants. The sights, sounds, and smells of this living museum are sure to reconnect you with a natural world that was almost lost.

12:00 – 1:30pm: Reconnect with the guide and group, and begin your journey to the Sonoma Wine County. Traveling north, you will see the beautiful valleys where fantastic wines have been produced since before California was a part of the Union. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of grapevines is impressive and provides a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs.

1:30pm: Stop for a picnic lunch at a winery (not included), or grab a bite in the historic Sonoma town square.

2:30 – 5:00pm: Spend the afternoon wine tasting around the Sonoma wine country. Sample a variety of white, red, and dessert wines at wineries such as Homewood, Larson, Peter Cellars, and Robledo, among others (some tasting fees may apply).

5:00pm onward: After a drop-off at your hotel, you’ll have the evening to do as you wish! Your hotel is walking-distance from many restaurants and wine tasting rooms.

Day 2 Itinerary

10:30am: Reconvene with your driver and group for the second day of tasting!

11:00 – 12:00pm: Arrive at Benziger Family Winery. Enjoy a close-up look at the vineyards, fermentation facility, and crush pad on a comfortable fully-guided tram tour. You’ll also have a chance to walk through their barrel caves! The tour is approximately 45 minutes long, and includes a special tasting of Benziger’s biodynamic and other award-winning wines.

12:00 – 1:00pm: After your tasting, enjoy your picnic lunch (included) in a quiet spot at one of the local wineries, surrounded by views of the beautiful countryside and vineyards.

1:00 – 5:00pm: In the afternoon, you will head over to Benziger’s sister winery Imagery for another take on California wine-making. Then, head out to famed Napa County for more wine tasting in Oakville, Yountville, or in the town of Napa. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of wine grapes is impressive and will provide a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs.

5:00 – 6:00pm: On the return trip, you’ll make one more photo stop above the Golden Gate Bridge – a must-do if you’ve never witnessed the awe-inspiring view of San Francisco from the Marin Headlands!

**Sample Itineraries: Please note that due to rapidly-changing conditions (weather, crowds, traffic) in Wine Country and the small size of our vehicles/groups, we’re able to allow our guides the flexibility to tailor your itinerary to best suit the needs of the group. While we guarantee that we’ll do our best to provide you with all of the highlights within this itinerary (conditions permitting), we do not guarantee them in this specific order. *

A Lovely 2 Days in Wine Country

“Aaron with Incredible Adventures was our tour guide and driver. He is a San Francisco native and experienced driver. Aaron kept us advised on the pick up time, and was considerate of our personal needs as we made our way from San Francisco into the Sonoma Valley. The wineries were unique in their own way a perfect blend. The restaurant recommendations were amazing in Sonoma and hotel was perfectly sufficient. January is the perfect time for seeing the countryside, visiting with low numbers of tourists, and personalized service. The government shutdown kept us from Muir Woods on Day 1, but given there were just the two of us on Day 2, we gave up wine tasting in the p.m., and Aaron took us to the Woods anyway. Aaron was awesome we had a great time with him. Even driving through the city to our drop off, he gave us a wonderful commentary on the homes and history. Come to San Francisco is January and enjoy the small crowds.”
