American River (South Fork) - Incredible Adventures

Rafting down the south fork of the American River

A tributary of the American River that flows from the Sierra Nevada mountains, the South Fork is one of the most popular whitewater rafting destinations in California. The stretch of river from Coloma to the upper reaches of Folsom Lake (Chili Bar and Gorge section) provide exciting Class II and Class III rapids.

Historically, it was on the banks of the South Fork where gold was first discovered in California by James Marshall in 1848. This discovery started the Gold Rush of 1849 which forever changed the history of California. See it for yourself on our American River Whitewater Rafting Tour, which runs Fridays and Sundays from mid-May to mid-September.
